The morning at Clear Lake was unbelievably beautiful, and the moment I paddled out, the words slipped from my mouth: “Beautiful…”
The surface of the lake mirrored the sky like glass, as if time itself had stopped. Betting everything on the brief calm before the wind, I tied on the MBD “EDEN8.” This was the moment—I had come here to cast EDEN8 on this lake. Cast after cast, I searched the water desperately. At first, I worked it with a fast rhythm, but nothing. As the sun climbed higher and the surface began to shine, I changed my retrieve. More deliberate, more aware of the distance between me and the fish…

And then, suddenly, a shock ran through me. EDEN8 was crushed. My whole body reacted instinctively, driving a full-force hookset. The rod bent into a deep arc, the SUP rocked beneath me. My heart pounded as if it would explode, and when I caught a flash beneath the surface, the shout burst out of me: “YOSHAAAAA!!!” — My first Clear Lake bass! And it had taken my very own soul-crafted EDEN8 (Trout).

After releasing the fish, the wind rose and my time was up. What lingered in my chest was a touch of loneliness, but even more powerful was the feeling—“I will come back.” The bass I earned here, at the holy ground of swimbaits where I set foot with my own two feet, will be engraved in my life forever.
