Line setup is extremely important when fishing the BUGWAKE.
Recommended setup
60lb braided line + 40lb nylon leader.

Why use braided line?
Braided line has much less stretch than fluorocarbon. Because there is almost no stretch, the action of the BUGWAKE is transmitted directly through the line.
This allows the BUGWAKE to perform at its maximum potential at long, medium, and short distances. The difference is especially noticeable on long casts, where the action response becomes much sharper. When BUGWAKE produces a strong action, the wooden body also creates a stronger wood sound.

BUGWAKE was born from my experience fishing the vast shallow flats in the United States.

The scale of these flats is very different from Japan, and many of them are filled with underwater grass.
To pull fish out from that grass, BUGWAKE’s strong water displacement and wood sound create a powerful presence that triggers bites.
Instead of searching for fish with short casts across a wide area, you can cover much more water efficiently with long casts.

Even when you hook a fish in grassy areas, a strong line setup allows you to stay in control and pull the fish out. That’s why it’s important to use a line setup with enough strength and margin.
Exploring vast shallow flats with long casts and drawing fish in with strong water displacement and wood sound—that’s exactly what this line setup is designed for.
