BUGWAKE holds so many memories for me.
Four years ago, when I first traveled to the United States, I realized the true need for a wake bait. Standing on those vast shallow flats and watching bass actively feeding on the shallows, I felt it clearly: this is necessary.
As soon as I returned to Japan, I began building a wake bait based on BUGROCK. BUGROCK was designed for crank down, but I believed its body could truly come alive on the surface as well. With the first prototype, I caught countless fish in both Japan and the U.S. That prototype became the foundation that eventually led to the BUGWAKE you see today.
Last year, I decided that 2026 would be the year of its official release.
Before that, I wanted to take the first prototype on one last journey. So I brought it with me to America. After I returned to Japan, I planned to keep it as part of my personal collection.
But on that final trip, I had a line break.The prototype disappeared into the water.
I searched for a while, but I couldn’t find it. The shock was real. Yet after everything we had been through together—the endless testing and the countless fish—it somehow felt right that it returned to the waters where this journey truly began. In a way, it was a BUGWAKE ending.
BUGWAKE carries many memories.
